Family and Consumer Sciences UT Extension Logo

Educational programs focus on strengthening individuals, families and communities by addressing critical issues and needs, such as teaching parenting skills, improving nutrition and health, managing family finances, addressing child care needs, and others.

Some of our programs include health education classes with senior centers, worksite wellness programs with local industrial companies and partnering with Fayette County Public Schools promoting nutrition, physical activity, and mental health awareness. Programs such as Color Me Healthy, a Pre-K nutrition and physical activity program are taught to encourage fruit and vegetable intake and increased physical activity. Students enjoy fruit and vegetable tastings and fun physical activities. Food preservation workshops, co-parenting education, and Skill Up Tennessee are programs aimed at empowering participants by pointing them towards self-sufficiency and ultimately a better future. All are implemented to encourage individuals and families to live their best lives!

Canning and Preserving Foods?

It’s time to test……your pressure canner, that is. Anyone using a pressure canner with a dial gauge should have it tested each year at the beginning of canning season.

We will test your pressure canner dial gauge, lid and gasket FREE of charge. Take your test now, so you can enjoy the great fresh fruits and vegetables available now, all year long!
