Family & Consumer Science

Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) helps individuals and families build the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions, improve their well-being, and strengthen their families and communities. Through UT Extension Fayette County, FCS provides research-based education and hands-on learning focused on Community Health, Nutrition & Food Safety, Human Development, and Consumer Economics. 

Programs are offered through community classes, workshops, school and youth programs, partnerships, demonstrations, and special-interest activities. FCS programs are designed to be practical, engaging, and useful in everyday life.

Community Outreach 

Fayette County Family & Consumer Sciences works with schools, senior centers, libraries, community organizations, and other local partners to bring educational programs directly to Fayette County residents. Programs provide opportunities to learn through hands-on activities, demonstrations, workshops, and community events. 

FCS Impact 

FCS programs are designed to turn research-based information into practical changes that improve everyday life. These were the 2025 impacts. 

• 108 of 108 participants improved their diet quality, with an estimated $1,080 in healthcare cost savings.  

• 55 of 55 participants completed fall prevention programs, resulting in an estimated $34,864.50 in medical cost savings.  

• 41 of 41 participants reduced their risk for foodborne illness, resulting in an estimated $41,000 in potential savings.
